Locomotive FC seeks to continue its historic run in push toward playoffs

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — On the heels of setting a club record with eight consecutive victories, El Paso Locomotive FC returns home seeking to extend its historic run.
El Paso will face FC Tulsa at Southwest University Park on Friday, Sep. 25.

Heading into the match, the Locos sit atop the USL Championship's Western Conference standings with 46 points. With five matches remaining in league play, they need one more victory to clinch a playoff spot and two more to secure a top-four seed and host a first-round match.
The ultimate goal for the Locos, however, is locking up the top seed in the West to guarantee home-field advantage at Southwest University Park throughout the playoffs.
Their next obstacle is an FC Tulsa team that they have faced twice this season, losing both matchups. The Locos first fell to Tulsa, 4-1, on April 29 at Southwest University Park in a match largely dictated by an 11th-minute red card to El Paso's Gabi Torres. The Locos then fell 1-0 on the road on July 18.
However, the Locomotive team that Tulsa defeated twice earlier in the year was still inconsistent week-to-week, and had not yet hit the momentum it currently has.
Locomotive midfielder Robert Coronado joined KTSM Sports for an in-studio interview Wednesday to discuss the team's dominant form over the past two months, and what it must do to carry that momentum through the end of the regular season.
"Coming off a good season last year, we just wanted to set the standard for this season. And everyone who returned knew what we wanted to do and we're showing it," Coronado said. "We have to continue being aggressive. I feel like that's been helping us through these wins, that we've been very aggressive in setting our foot forward and making sure that the team knows that we're there to win and we're here to compete."
