Austin-area high school football Week 5 scores: Westlake wants momentum heading into 25-6A

The Lake Travis Cavaliers hadn't won a game since their first game before Thursday night's 59-6 demolition of McNeil to open District 25-6A play. But that'll happen when one game gets called a tie because of bad weather and the next game is a rare regular-season loss to an independent private school power.
But all looked right for the Cavs (2-1-1, 1-0) - still the No. 1 team in the American-Statesman's weekly Class 6A power rankings - at the Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex, and this week and next will tell us a lot about that 25-6A race. Westlake's home game with 3-1 Midland Lee, which has already beaten Plano and Liberty Hill, is coming off the Chaps' 49-40 loss to Prosper last week. They open district next week with a doozie: the Round Rock Dragons.

That Westlake-Midland Lee game is one of several that we're watching tonight as we barrel into the halfway point of the 2026 high school football regular season around Central Texas. Week 5 has several Austin-area districts in full swing, including Hutto-East View and Rouse-Vista Ridge in 24-6A, Hays-Johnson in 26-6A, Georgetown-Glenn in 12-5A DI and Anderson-Boerne Champion in 13-5A DI.
We're staffing two games, both in 26-6A. Colby Gordon is writing out of the Hays-Johnson game at Bob Shelton Stadium and Shaun Chornobroff is at Bowie vs. Austin High, where he's getting his first look at Bulldogs RB Rhys Moreno. They're also providing live coverage out of those Hays-Johnson and Bowie-Austin High games.

Manor 39, McCallum 31: Manor (3-2, 2-1) gets Cedar Creek and Lehman the next two weeks before Anderson, Lockhart and Boerne Champion to close things out.
Smithson Valley 84, Cedar Creek 7: Eagles (2-3, 0-2) have had three consecutive tough draws - Boerne Champion, Seguin and Smithson Valley.

Liberty Hill 38, New Braunfels 24: Panthers (3-2, 1-0) stopped the bleeding after back-to-back losses, just in time for district.

Crockett 23, Eastside 8: Cougars (2-3) have won back-to-back games heading into 12-5A DII play next week at Bastrop.
Bryan Rudder 63, Elgin 19: Up-and-down Wildcats (2-3) open District 12-5A DII play next week at Pflugerville.
