The last time Renée Slegers' side lost in the WSL was a 3-2 defeat away to Manchester City back in early October of 2025 with a rematch set to take place on the one-year anniversary next week. However, Arsenal couldn't hold on to a full year after losing away to Chelsea.
The decisive moment of an even game came shortly before half-time and it was from an Arsenal mistake. The Gunners lost the ball in their own half with Keira Walsh then having a shot that was saved by Anneke Borbe only for Thompson to pounce on the rebound.
The goal will have been particularly annoying for Arsenal after having had much more of the ball before that although they hadn't made the most of it.
Lauren James caused plenty of problems for the Arsenal defence as the game went on while Melvine Malard will feel that she should have got on the scoresheet to avoid a nervy end to the game.
Despite an extra five minutes of stoppage time at the end of the game, the Gunners still couldn't find a way through. Arsenal's lack of creativity will continue to frustrate Slegers but this was a good win for Sonia Bompastor's side who end the weekend in second place, two points behind leaders City. Arsenal meanwhile sit in seventh with just one win in their first four league games.
