The Steelers struck first with a four-play, 73-yard scoring march, opened up by a 30-yard catch-and-run by Jaylen Warren and punctuated by Aaron Rodgers’ 38-yard deep ball to Roman Wilson.
Cincinnati answered 7:20 later, with Joe Burrow hitting Ja’Marr Chase on a quick out for a three-yard strike. That connection closed the book on an 11-play, 73-yard drive in which the Bengals faced just two third downs. With a march just as long play-wise, Rodgers vaulted the Steelers back ahead, hitting Ben Skowronek for a 23-yard touchdown.
Aided by an illegal formation penalty, the Steelers forced Cincinnati to settle for a 50-yard Evan McPherson field goal on the following series. Chris Boswell matched that with his own make from 44 yards out, making it 17-10 with about half of the second quarter to go.
After getting the Bengals to punt, Pittsburgh moved to Cincinnati’s 48, but a Rodgers pass smacked off Wilson’s hands and into Jordan Battle’s. Five plays later, Tee Higgins somehow pulled in a 28-yard touchdown reception with Steelers cornerback Asante Samuel trying to fight over his shoulder and back to the ball.
McPherson nailed a 38-yard field goal to give Cincinnati its first lead 6:38 into the second half. The teams traded touchdowns caused by defensive gaffes, with DK Metcalf snaring a 6-yard pass and Mike Gesicki a 25-yarder.
