Despite the lopsided scoreline, the difference in shot attempts (18-10) and attempts on target (10-5) was not embarrassing, and the Yellowjackets were only up 1-0 at the half-hour mark on Seth Davidson's 10th-minute penalty kick.
However, Harvey McLoughlin scored in the 32nd minute and both grabbed a second goal on the day before the 60th minute had passed. UWS tacked on two more late for its second 6-0 UMAC win this week. Tuesday, Sept. 22, they scored five times in the second half to dump Northwestern 6-0 in Superior, including a natural hat trick from Davidson in a 25-minute span of the second half.
UWS goalie Henry Ruhland made five saves in about 80 minutes of work.
The Yellowjackets (5-2-1, 4-0 UMAC) have three home games this week, Tuesday vs. Bethel, Wednesday vs. Martin Luther and Saturday against Bethany Lutheran.
The UWS defense allowed just two shots on target and three attempts in a 4-0 UMAC shutout at Minnesota Morris on Saturday, Sept. 26.
That made relatively easy work for Yellowjackets goalkeeper Baylee Nygard, who made both saves she was called upon for.
Offensively, the Yellowjackets leaned on a first-half goal from Sonja Root until the latter stages, when Claire Loria bagged a brace less than five minutes apart to ensure the victory.
Earlier in the week, UWS was held to a 1-1 draw in Superior by Northwestern on Tuesday, Sept. 22, getting a second-half goal from Esko native Abrianna Madill. They also played a nonconference home game on Wednesday, losing 1-0 to visiting St. Catherine.
After a run-in with UMAC juggernaut Northwestern, Wisconsin-Superior recovered nicely to dismiss North Central 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-18) at Mertz Mortorelli Gym in Superior on Saturday, Sept. 26.
Makenna Hohbein led the way with 13 kills over the three sets in addition to two aces and two blocks.
Defensively, Savanna Hering's 16 digs led all players.
On Friday, Northwestern exerted its dominance in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-21) sweep of the Yellowjackets in Superior.
UWS hit .196 for the match, above its season average, but the visiting Eagles were too tough to handle, posting a .286 mark and holding a 48-36 edge in overall kills, including 21 for Ana Egge alone.
Hohbein led UWS in both kills (nine) and digs (12), while Hering (a Superior High School alum) had 11 digs including the 1,000th of her collegiate career.
UWS (9-3, 1-1 UMAC) returns to the floor on the road Friday and Saturday, traveling to Bethany Lutheran first, then Martin Luther to complete the weekend.
