2 accused of swindling $650K from Ajax FC Soccer Club

A man and a woman from Durham Region are facing charges after a fraud investigation involving an Ajax soccer club.

Durham Regional Police said investigators began a fraud investigation in December 2024 after receiving reports of irregularities found in banking transactions for the Ajax FC Soccer Club.
“Following a comprehensive investigation, including the analysis of several years of financial statements, more than $650,000 of league funds were found to have been transferred from the Ajax Soccer Club account to various accounts spanning from early 2023 to 2024,” Durham police alleged in a news release issued on Tuesday afternoon.
At the time of the alleged incidents, police said that the accused were employed in the executive director and general manager positions within the club.
Vicki Scott, 50, of Whitby, is charged with fraud over $5,000, laundering proceeds of crime and breach of trust.
According to her LinkedIn page, Scott was the executive director of the Ajax soccer club from 2013 onwards.
Richard Karikari, 47, of Ajax, is charged with fraud over $5,000, possession of the proceeds of crime and breach of trust.
Both accused were released on an undertaking.
The club is aware of the investigation and released a statement.
“While Ajax Soccer Club cannot comment on the specific allegations due to the ongoing police investigation and court proceedings, it is important to clarify that neither Richard Karikari nor Vicki Scott has been affiliated with Ajax Soccer Club in any capacity since 2024,” the club said in a statement on its website.
“They are not employees, volunteers, directors, officers, members of the executive team, contractors, or representatives of Ajax Soccer Club. The current Board of Directors, executive leadership, staff, coaches, volunteers, and membership have no association with these individuals and are not involved in the matters that are the subject of the police investigation.”
