Kai Trump Suffers Horror Injury in Debut College Golf Tournament

Kai Trump’s college golf career has hit an early obstacle after the University of Miami freshman suffered a painful wrist injury during the first tournament of her collegiate career.

The 19-year-old detailed the injury in a YouTube vlog, explaining that the trouble began during the Golfweek Fall Challenge when an otherwise routine-looking shot produced a nasty surprise.
“I kinda had an injury to my wrist during the tournament, my first college tournament,” Kai said.
According to Kai, she was attempting a shot near a path when her club struck something much harder than expected beneath the ground.
“Let’s just say there must have been some cart path underneath that ground because it was very hard,” she explained. “Hit it, it felt like a shock on my arm.”
A Bad Swing Makes the Injury Worse

“Then on the tenth hole, I hit my driver, and I felt like I tore it again,” she recalled.
Medical testing brought some good news: Kai said she did not completely tear her wrist. However, doctors did discover what she described as a “little sliver” of damage involving cartilage and ligaments.
Hoping to avoid a lengthy absence from competition, Kai said she is undergoing stem cell injections from pain management specialist Dr. Jeffrey Wiegers.
The injury came during a difficult collegiate debut at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawleys Island, South Carolina. Kai finished tied for 102nd in the 120-player field, with the wrist problem hampering her performance.
An Emotional Start to College Life
The setback adds another challenge to what has already been an emotional start to college for President Donald Trump’s granddaughter.
Kai verbally committed to the University of Miami in August 2024 before beginning her first year this fall. In another recent YouTube video, she documented the final days before leaving her home in Jupiter, Florida, and moving into her new life at school.
For someone who described herself as rarely emotional, the departure proved difficult.
Footage showed Kai crying while driving home from the golf course the day before leaving for college as the reality of saying goodbye to family and friends began to sink in.
“It’s just really sad that I have to say goodbye to everyone today,” she said through tears.
“I’m not a very emotional person at all, so this is really weird for me to cry; I’ve only cried a few times,” Kai continued. “I think knowing that I have to say goodbye to everyone tonight really, really sucks.”
She explained that she would not have to say goodbye to her mother the following day, but leaving everyone else was weighing on her.
“I’m struggling right now, just thinking about it,” she admitted.
At the same time, Kai made clear that the emotions were mixed. She said she was “excited” about beginning the next stage of her life while still finding the transition difficult.
A Rough Introduction to College Golf
Her vlog followed those final moments with friends before shifting to her first night in her Miami apartment, marking the beginning of a dramatically different routine.
Now, only weeks into that transition, Kai is dealing with another adjustment. Her first taste of college competition ended not just with a disappointing result, but with a wrist injury that required treatment.
For the Miami freshman, the immediate concern is getting that wrist healthy enough to swing freely again after an unexpectedly painful introduction to collegiate golf.
