Veteran OPP team leader facing child sex abuse material charges

A veteran Ontario Provincial Police officer on leave from work is facing child sexual abuse material charges following an investigation earlier this year.
OPP officers executed a search warrant at a residence in Alliston on June 16 and seized a number of electronic devices, police said in a news release last Friday.
The investigation lasted nearly three months before charges were laid.
Chris Weise, a 54-year-old Alliston resident, was arrested on Sept. 8 and charged with accessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material and possessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material.
Cop on leave of absence
“The investigation revealed that the accused is an OPP Sergeant with 28 years of service who is currently on an unrelated leave of absence,” the OPP said in a statement.
Evidence heard during a bail hearing was under a publication ban, according to CTV News .
Provincial police didn’t announce charges against the accused until more than two weeks had passed following his arrest.
Detectives with the OPP’s Child Sexual Exploitation Unit conducting the investigation were aided by its Nottawasaga Detachment in Alliston and members of the Digital Forensics Unit, police said.
Described as team leader
According to the province’s Sunshine List , the accused is described as a team leader with the force.
Records show the accused has earned between $161,000 and $212,000 since 2019.

The accused has a court appearance scheduled in Bradford on Oct. 8 to answer the charges.
