Tuesday night’s do-or-die WNBA Playoff game for the Indiana Fever included anincredible performance from Caitlin Clark. Unfortunately, it was overshadowed by another fan incident at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

With less than five minutes remaining in the game, Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson and Fever reserve guard and fan favorite Sophie Cunningham got tangled up in the paint, and Cunningham was whistled for a foul after wrapping up Wilson and impeding her movement.
After the whistle, Wilson engaged in a heated verbal altercation with a fan sitting along the baseline. Wilson received a technical foul, while security stepped in but did not kick the fan out of the arena.
During the live broadcast on Amazon Prime Video, analyst LaChina Robinson, who was calling the game alongside play-by-play announcer Michael Grady and WNBA legend Candace Parker, called out the Fever crowd for continuously being at the center of in-game incidents throughout the season.

“This is really unfortunate, and I feel like this has happened several times here in Indiana,” Robinson noted. “The intensity of the game is enough, and then to have to hear things from the crowd and fans, that should not- that don’t have the right to impact the game at this point and the emotions of these players.
“And you know something was said, because you don’t see that kind of reaction from A’ja Wilson. That is just not even in line with her demeanor unless it’s absolutely necessary.”
Parker also chimed in, acknowledging that fans can sometimes go overboard with their comments and actions during games.
“To be honest with you, if you’re a player, you can’t say anything. We’re human beings as well, and I think sometimes fans get into the game and think they can say whatever they want. We don’t know what was said, but A’ja took exception to it,” Parker said.

Just last month, Aces guard Jackie Young pointed out a pair of Fever fans who ultimately voluntarily left the arena. Let’s just hope there are no incidents in the do-or-die Game 3 at Michelob ULTRA Arena in Vegas on Thursday, October 1.
Tip-off is set for 9:00 p.m. ET on USA Network and CNBC.
