UConn women’s basketball’s annual trip to Seton Hall will have a different venue this season. On Thursday, the Huskies announced that they’ll play the Pirates at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey as part of the Coretta Scott King Classic on Monday, Jan. 18 — Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Fox will broadcast the game at 2:30 p.m. ET.
“We’re grateful to participate in the Coretta Scott King Classic,” head coach Geno Auriemma said in the release. “This year’s classic brings two great games to fans while celebrating the legacy of Coretta Scott King and her family. I think it’ll be a great day of basketball and reflection, and it’s an honor to be able to compete in this event.”

The Prudential Center serves as the home of Seton Hall’s men’s basketball team as well as the NHL’s New Jersey Devils. UConn last played there on Dec. 11, 2021 — a 71-61 victory over UCLA in the Never Forget Tribute Classic. Seton Hall women’s basketball typically plays its home games at Walsh Gymnasium, a 1,316-seat arena on campus.
The Coretta Scott King Classic describes itself as “a growing movement dedicated to celebrating equality, education and empowerment through sport.” In addition to UConn-Seton Hall, UCLA will take on Oklahoma at noon as part of the event.
“The Coretta Scott King Classic continues to bring my family’s enduring legacy into spaces where young people can see, experience, and embody the values my mother held so deeply,” Dr. Bernice A. King, daughter of Coretta Scott King and CEO of The King Center, said in the release. “Through the power of women’s basketball, this event creates an opportunity to celebrate excellence while encouraging the next generation to lead with courage, purpose, and a commitment to community.”
