Police investigating fatal Scarborough hit-and-run

Police in the city’s east end are investigating after an overnight hit-and-run left a pedestrian dead.

Emergency crews were called to the scene on Midland Ave., a few blocks south of McNicoll Ave., near Silver Star Blvd., just before 2 a.m. for reports of the collision.
The victim, identified by police as a pedestrian, was reportedly struck by a vehicle before the driver fled the scene.
They were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency crews.
Police have no suspect or vehicle description and have not released any details about the victim.
Midland Ave. remained closed from McNicoll Ave. to Silver Star Blvd. for most of the overnight hours while police investigated.
According to data made available by Toronto police, this is the 20th fatal pedestrian collision so far this year.
2026 a deadly year for pedestrians
So far, 2026 is proving to be Toronto’s deadliest year for pedestrians since 2022, when 21 people were killed on city streets.
Sixteen were killed in 2023, followed by 15 in 2024, and 16 in 2025.
Friday morning’s death comes just one day after a 32-year-old woman died in hospital after she was struck by a car in Richmond Hill on Sept. 24.
That early morning collision occurred near Major Mackenzie Dr. E. and Spadina Rd. — just east of Bayview Ave.
As well, police in Peel Region made an arrest on Wednesday in connection with a hit-and-run in Mississauga that left a man in his 60s dead.
Aubrey Lawrence, 69, of Hamilton faces charges in that case.
