Okay, you got me. The reason why we have 16 brand new Marquette swimming records right now is because October 2nd’s meet against Iowa was the first meet in Marquette women’s swimming history. The 200 yard medley relay was the first event in program history, and the team of Mackenzie Choinski, Enya Linson, Nina Newton, and Allie Seiler finished fifth in the meet with a time of 1:49.53. They beat two other MU teams and landed behind four Iowa teams, and so that 1:49.53 is now the program record for the 200 yard medley.

CONTINUING WITH THE LIST OF RECORDS!

100 Yard Freestyle: Bridget Corro, 10:33.77

200 Yard Freestyle: Janna Spetz, 1:56.48

100 Yard Backstroke: Mackenzie Choinski, 58.09

200 Yard Butterfly: Kayla Wieckowski, 2:08.82

50 Yard Freestyle: Nina Newton, 25.04

100 Yard Freestyle: Finley Warren, 54.52

200 Yard Backstroke: Mackenzie Choinski, 2:08.74

200 Yard Individual Medley: Enya Linson, 2:10.26

400 Yard Freestyle Relay: Finley Warren, Janna Spetz, Allie Seiler, Nina Newton; 3:39.91

Those are the first record holders in Marquette history. Everything else going forward from here will be chasing these marks set by these nine women in various combinations.

We have other historical notes! Marquette posted a team score in the meet of 70 points, so that is now a team record for points in a meet. Did Iowa score 189 points and win the meet? Sure, but that’s not the point!

18 different women — nearly all of the 21 woman roster! — made their Marquette debuts in this meet. 14 of them were their collegiate debuts, made possible by the fact that most of the Marquette roster are freshmen. The 200 yard relay team of Choinski, Linson, Newton, and Seiler recorded the first overall points in program history and the first team points as well. Bridget Corro’s second place finish in the 1000 yard freestyle recorded the first individual points in program history.

Marquette’s first chance to break any and/or all of these records is coming up next week Friday. That will actually be Marquette’s first ever home match, as they will be hosting Northern Iowa at the Wellness + Rec Center on campus.
