SWR Records 4.41 MT Freight Loading and ₹870 Cr Revenue in September 2026; Cumulative Loading Reaches 26.1 MT and Revenue ₹4,730 Cr

South Western Railway (SWR) recorded 4.41 million tonnes of originating freight loading in September 2026, registering 5.9% growth over the 4.17 million tonnes loaded in September 2025. Iron Ore accounted for the highest loading at 1.70 million tonnes, registering 4.0% growth, followed by Pig Iron and Finished Steel at 1.127 million tonnes (24.4%), Coal at 0.90 million tonnes (20.8%), Mineral Oil at 0.217 million tonnes (79.3%), Balance Other Goods at 0.167 million tonnes, Container traffic at 0.105 million tonnes (31.3%), Cement at 0.037 million tonnes (23.3%), and Food Grains at 0.007 million tonnes.

During April–September 2026, cumulative originating freight loading stood at 26.1 million tonnes, registering 5.8% growth over the corresponding period of 2025. Iron Ore accounted for 10.17 million tonnes (4.7%), followed by Pig Iron and Finished Steel 5.95 million tonnes (10.5%), Coal 5.36 million tonnes (11.4%), Balance Other Goods 1.25 million tonnes (20.0%), Mineral Oil 1.24 million tonnes (15.9%), Container traffic 0.55 million tonnes (13.4%), Cement 0.22 million tonnes (18.2%), and Food Grains 0.09 million tonnes (89.4%).

On the revenue front, SWR recorded Gross Revenue of ₹870 crore in September 2026, an increase of ₹119 crore (15.91%) over September 2025. Passenger revenue stood at ₹357.5 crore, registering an increase of ₹75.70 crore (26.87%) and exceeding the monthly target by ₹36.96 crore (11.53%). Passenger volume increased to 1.5 crore, registering 6.83% growth over the previous year.

Freight revenue stood at ₹465 crore, registering an increase of ₹37.28 crore (8.72%). Other coaching revenue rose to ₹28.81 crore, an increase of ₹2.74 crore (10.51%), while Sundry revenue stood at ₹18.87 crore, registering an increase of ₹3.67 crore (24.14%). Parcel revenue reached ₹15.89 crore, registering an increase of ₹1.49 crore (10.35%) over September 2025.

For the period up to September 2026, SWR recorded Gross Revenue of ₹4,730 crore, registering an increase of ₹221.32 crore (4.91%) over the previous year. Passenger revenue rose to ₹1,904.10 crore, an increase of ₹254.48 crore (15.43%), while the number of passengers carried increased to 9.2 crore, registering 4.78% growth. Freight revenue reached to 2546 crore. Parcel revenue stood at ₹89.50 crore, up by ₹4.57 crore (5.38%), while ticket-checking earnings increased to ₹33.71 crore, registering a growth of ₹0.84 crore (2.56%) over the corresponding period of the previous year.

Overall, SWR registered consistent growth in freight loading, passenger traffic and revenue generation, with several key freight commodities and revenue segments recording positive year-on-year growth during September 2026 and the cumulative period up to September 2026.
