Florida's Jon Sumrall Understands Gators Have to be Better

The University of Florida had its worst football game of the season, without a doubt. It was almost embarrassing that Florida played at this level against Missouri and dropped the contest 45-17.

There wasn't anything positive to say about what Florida was able to do on either side of the football, a concerning sign entering the remainder of SEC play. At the same time, while Florida struggled mightily, we still have to remember what it did against some of the other top teams in the country earlier in the season.
Florida went on the road against a good Auburn team and took care of business, then crushed Ole Miss the following week, beating a top-10 team in America. Florida's schedule won't get any easier, though, as it will take on Texas, Georgia, and other decent SEC programs toward the back end of the season.
Florida must realize Missouri put together some good tape against it. If the Gators don't come out and change some things up, teams are now going to have the book on what they need to do to stop them. It was pretty obvious that selling out for the run against Jadan Baugh was the way to beat this team, but Missouri really put that on tape.
"You always have to figure out what's giving you problems. Yeah, I mean, you know, you have to know yourself better than you know anybody. And if something's going well, you lean into that, if something's not going well, you have to, how do we offset that?
And through five games, there's been some things that we've shown that we're good at certain spots, and there's been some things that we're not anywhere near where we need to be.
“Everybody in our program still needs to get better, but yeah, there are some glaring areas where we have to make significant growth and strides to be a well-rounded football team. And so you have to acknowledge and be aware of, like, where the shortcomings are,” Jon Sumrall said, per 247.
I'm not at all worried about what Sumrall is going to be able to do for this program to ensure Florida still has a chance to be one of the best teams in America toward the back end of the season.
Talent-wise, I still believe Florida is a College Football Playoff-caliber team, and I absolutely love what the head coach has done throughout his first couple of weeks in Gainesville. This was a very bad loss and was somewhat inexcusable, but throughout the first five weeks of the season, I think we all would have taken a 4-1 start.
