Jalon Daniels had his breakthrough game on Thursday, as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers shocked the Dallas Cowboys, 24-16, at AT&T Stadium. The Buccaneers notched their first win after a 0-4 start.

Daniels, who was filling in for Baker Mayfield for the second time, went 19-of-25 for 189 yards, one touchdown, and zero interceptions. He also had seven carries for 23 yards.

During his postgame interview, the 23-year-old rookie asked his mother to join him, sharing an emotional moment.

“It is indescribable. This moment is so big. I’m speechless. I’m so proud of you. This is amazing,” beamed Star Daniels.

The young quarterback has been a feel-good story. He earned a spot on the Buccaneers despite going undrafted in April. He played five years at Kansas, hoping to get enough attention from the NFL.

He is making the most of the opportunity given to him by Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles, as Mayfield is expected to return in Week 7. They will face the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 6, matching up Daniels with Aaron Rodgers.

Daniels had a subpar outing in his first start in Week 4 against the Green Bay Packers. He, however, remained steadfast in his self-belief.

“Everything you go through is built to make you stronger for every situation that happens. So there’s a lot of learning lessons I’ll be able to take from today, and I’m going to be better from that,” said the upstart signal-caller.

Daniels was indeed better on Thursday. He is living the dream, and sharing it with his mother has made everything feel like a triumph.
