Vision Star Paul Bettany Makes Shock Avengers: Infinity War Script Confession

· IGN

Everyone knows how seriously Marvel takes script security. The cast of 2015's Avengers Age of Ultron, for example, revealed that pages of the script had to be shredded every day on set to stop the plot leaking online. Marvel doesn’t email scripts, rather has a security guard hand deliver them. But what if an Avenger accidentally leaves their script on a plane?

That’s exactly what Paul Bettany, who plays Vision in new Disney+ show VisionQuest, did with the Avengers: Infinity War script. The British actor issued the shock revelation on Virgin Radio, and admitted having to tip a greeter $500 to get out of the hole he'd dug for himself

“I’ve never told anybody this, but I once left the entire script for Infinity War on a plane,” Bettany began, sparking a gasp from co-star Emily Hampshire, who plays E.D.I.T.H.

“And I got off the plane and I was in my car and I went, ‘Oh… oh… oh no!’

“And I was lucky to have had a greeter that was a genius, and I got the greeter to go in and get it. And I tipped that greeter like 500 bucks.”

That’s a lucky escape for Bettany, who risked spoiling one of the biggest Marvel movies of all time. That greeter certainly earnt their tip, forcing their way airside again to find that wayward script.

“They’re amazing,” Bettany said.

Hampshire, by the way, admitted losing a script for VisionQuest, saying security turned up at their house when they failed to return the sides (the scenes they’re to do that day). “Yes! I didn’t know they were precious. I probably threw them out!” she said.

The MCU is littered with examples of its actors spoiling key plot points. Ahead of the release of Age of Ultron, Scarlet Witch actor Elizabeth Olsen revealed an extreme security measure while filming. "It was quite funny that we had to burn our sides for the day... we weren't allowed to go home with our little pages of whatever we shot that day,” she told the BBC. "They took it from our trailers and shredded it. It's pretty crazy."

And, in a fun almost prophetic comment in the context of Bettany’s revelation, Olsen said at the time that Avengers should be watched on the big screen. "These films aren't plane movies... they deserve to be seen in a cinema the way it was made."

VisionQuest kicks off today, October 13, at 6pm PT / 9pm ET. Check out the revised VisionQuest release schedule here, and our spoiler-free review of VisionQuest Episodes 1 and 2 here.
