Red BullF1 driver Verstappen confirmed his participation in the final round of the 2026 GT World Challenge Europe Endurance in Portimao, in the #3 Verstappen Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 machinery.

He would partner Lulham and Barnicoat in the lead category for his first GT World Challenge start, after stints at NLS on the Nordschleife. It is part of a hectic schedule after he completed three back-to-back F1 races in Baku, Malaysia and Singapore.

This weekend in Portimao will follow another F1 triple-header in Austin, Mexico and Brazil. Verstappen got straight into the thick of things in practice, but the crew only qualified 15th overall and 11th in the Pro Cup category.

How the Race Panned Out for Verstappen Racing

They were promoted to 13th overall eventually. While the laps from Lulham and Verstappen were good, Barnicoat couldn’t extract the maximum. The Brit started the race on Saturday and made a quick inroad to be inside the Top 10.

After Lulham took over from eighth, he was in the Top 5 fight until a mistake when passing #48 Mercedes driver Luca Stolz. He was handed a drive-through penalty, which he served before handing the car to Verstappen for the last 45 minutes of the race.

In the night, the Dutchman made strong progress after a safety car restart to make his way up to the Top 10, which included some superlative moves on a mix of drivers, whether from the Gold Cup, Silver Cup or the Pro Cup – one where he cleared three cars in one go at Turn 2.

He was 24th overall when he started his stint and ended up ninth overall at the checkered flag, finishing fifth in the Pro Cup, to end a masterful stint for his potentially last race in the GT3 car of the 2026 season. “It was good,” he said to the mechanic after being greeted with cheers in the pits.
