Michael Pittman and Roman Wilson are both on IR, and Ben Skowronek won’t play in Week 6 due to a leg injury. That leaves Pittsburgh with just three healthy receivers who made the 53-man roster. They called up both Brandon Smith and Brandon Johnson from the practice squad for their matchup with the Buccaneers, but the lack of depth could come back to haunt them over the next month.
Many believe that the Steelers will be hitting the trade market to try and land another receiver. NFL insider Tom Pelissero reports that Pittsburgh has been calling about potential moves.
“I do know the Steelers have been calling around on veteran receivers since the injuries last week and I’d imagine that continues with the two WR now onIR,” Pelissero writes. He also adds that Jalen Tolbert and KaVontae Turpin are the two names with the most connections to Mike McCarthy, as both played under the Steelers’ head coach in Dallas.
The Steelers have been one of the most active teams when it comes to wide receiver trades over the last handful of years, trading away/for the likes of Diontae Johnson, Mike Williams, George Pickens, DK Metcalf, and Michael Pittman.
