The Eagles have started the season 2-4 and been at the centre of a negative media spotlight, suffering multiple injury setbacks as well as being on pace for their first losing season in over half a decade.

Hurts was under fire for his disappointing performances through the first few weeks, but the Eagles’ actions in managing a potential injury to their star QB amid an injury crisis which demolished most of their team are now under the spotlight.

Jalen Hurts injury timeline starts with Week 4 loss to Rams and ends with season-ending news

The beginning of Hurts’ injury merry-go-round came with their 24-20 loss to the Rams, where Hurts was cleated in the calf, but did not request treatment until a few days later, remaining a full practice participant in the interim.

The Eagles flew to London for an international game against the Jacksonville Jaguars for Week 5. Despite the presence of superficial blood clots in Hurts’ calf, he was cleared to play in the high-stakes game.

Despite the situation being bad enough for Hurts to avoid getting a full night’s rest before the game and playing on just a few intermittent hours of sleep, he played in their 19-17 loss, shouldering the blame for the result.

With flights being a major health risk for people with blood clots, Hurts still took the trans-Atlantic flight to return to Philadelphia, immediately getting back into the routine of practising with his teammates.

However, a follow-up ultrasound proved that the superficial calf clot had moved, ruling him out for their Week 6 clash against the Carolina Panthers, which ended with a 25-14 loss.

After further testing on October 19, it was revealed that Hurts had multiple blood clots in both lungs and was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis (DVT), ruling him out for the rest of the season.

Many fans and experts are criticising how the Eagles handled Hurts’ injury, including the blood clot discovery in London and advising him to play on limited rest and fly back to the USA after the game.

His consistent presence in practice was also criticised, as the Eagles should have stepped in to protect the 28-year-old QB from a potentially life-threatening situation.

With Hurts expected to recover after a course of blood thinners, everyone is hoping the former Super Bowl Champion can come into the 2027 NFL season as the best version of himself, putting the problems from this season behind him.
