· Yahoo Sports

One of the nation's top high school football programs in Texas will likely be without its starting quarterback for the remainder of the season as Waxahachie (TX) senior Jerry Meyer III suffered a broken collarbone in the Indians' 35-28 win over Duncanville (TX) on Friday, Oct. 23.

Greg Riddle of The Dallas Morning News first broke the news Monday night, stating Meyer's regular season has come to an end. Waxahachie head coach Lawrence Williams said in the report that he isn't sure how long Meyer will be out.

It also hasn't been decided if Meyer's injury will require surgery.

247Sports ranks the 6-foot-0, 190-pound Meyer as a three-star prospect and the No. 82 quarterback in the 2027 recruiting cycle. He has been committed to South Carolina since April 3.

Waxahachie, the No. 22 team in the latest Super 25 rankings and No. 4 team in the Southwest Super 15, is 7-1 on the year and coming off of its biggest win of the season. Meyer left the Duncanville game in the third quarter with the injury after going 13-of-16 passing for 262 yards and three touchdowns.

On the season, Meyer has completed 68% of his passes for 2,098 yards and 24 touchdowns to just three interceptions. He's also rushed for 157 yards and a touchdown.

With Meyer out, Waxahachie will turn to junior Micah Lewis. On the season, he's completed six of his nine pass attempts for 59 yards and a touchdowns.

Complimenting Williams is fellow junior and standout back Taylen Strange. The Indians will likely lean on Strange and the ground game as he has 796 yards and 14 touchdowns on the season.

The Indians have two games remaining in the regular season. They'll travel to Crowley on Oct. 30 and finish out the regular season at home against Mansfield on Nov. 11.
