Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker has been struggling.
It's gotten bad enough that Kansas City signed former Ravens kicker Justin Tucker to the practice squad to push Butker.

Special teams coordinator Dave Toub admitted on Thursday that Butker's 45-yard attempt that went wide right in Sunday's loss to the Seahawks was "a bad miss."
"You’ve got to make the kicks," Toub said. "The short kicks — that’s considered a short kick — you’ve got to make those in situations where it’s a tight game like that. It was an issue in that game, for sure."
Even with Tucker on the practice squad, the Chiefs' goal is to have Butker improve, with Toub noting how well Butker performed in tough conditions at Wednesday's practice.
"Butker is our kicker,” Toub said. “We’re trying to improve, we’re trying to get Butker right. That’s what this whole thing is about.
“He went 10-for-10 yesterday with Tucker standing right there,” Toub added. “And he went 10-for-10. On a windy day, it was 28-mile-an-hour gusts yesterday, and he went 10-for-10. And I thought right before out to practice, I was going, ‘This poor bastard,’ I mean, it’s 28-mile-an-hour gusts and he’s got to go out there and try to — and he did it. He went 10-for-10, so that’s a good thing. So we’re going to keep working it.”
Toub noted that Butker and Tucker have been exchanging notes on their processes, which should help Butker get on track.
“I’m a coach, I’m not a kicking guy. I don’t speak that language like those guys do,” Toub said. “Yesterday was unbelievable, those two guys. They were talking, they were talking about issues, they were talking about, ‘How did you handle it?’ And it’s been great. They’re professionals, both of them are professionals. So that part of it has been good.”
Butker has missed five field goal attempts and one extra point so far in 2026. He missed five field goals and four extra points all of last season.
