Why this Eagles trade candidate could land with the Steelers
· Yahoo Sports
Stuck in a five-game losing streak, the Philadelphia Eagles could be serious sellers at the NFL trade deadline — and one name keeps popping up.
Eagles cornerback Riq Woolen is considered one of the most obvious trade candidates, if not the most obvious, on the roster as this season has continued to spiral.

And there’s a chance the Eagles send him across the state to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
We acknowledged Woolen as a trade chip if the Eagles keep losing as the Nov. 10 deadline nears. And on Wednesday, ESPN also acknowledged Woolen could be on the move.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Matt Bowen ranked the NFL’s top 25 trade candidates with the deadline looming. Woolen came in at No. 8, the highest of any Eagles player.
“When I talk to rival teams about which players Philly might move,” Fowler wrote, “Woolen’s name comes up fairly often.”
Woolen made it clear on Wednesday that he doesn’t pay much attention to his name being mentioned in trade rumors. He dealt with it last year when he was with the Seahawks, too.

“Y’all can say a million things, but y’all wouldn’t really know until you get a talk with the GM and you get a talk with your coach,” Woolen said. “You can see me going to any team or hear anything about any team. But to me, that doesn’t matter to me. Just because I’m here working with these guys. ... My brothers need me. They don’t need my mind to be anywhere else. That’s my job being here.
“In Philly, I worked my butt off all offseason. So I’m going to ride with these guys throughout this season whether we’re undefeated or we don’t win a game. I’ll work my butt off with them, and they work hard as hell, too. I’m going to be where my feet are at and let the chips fall where they may.”
But the reality of the situation is, Woolen’s feet may be in a different team’s locker room in a week or two.
It’s apparent why that’s the case. Woolen is on an expiring contract. He’s a volatile player; he’s been mostly good this season before being torched in Monday’s loss to Dallas. And his $1.26 million base salary is easy for a team to stomach.
But where could he go?
ESPN listed three potential teams as fits for Woolen: the Detroit Lions, Carolina Panthers and Steelers.
The Steelers are thin at cornerback after dealing Joey Porter Jr. to the Cowboys. Woolen could make sense there. The Panthers and Lions have injuries at cornerback, too.
But there’s a pre-existing relationship between Eagles GM Howie Roseman and Steelers assistant GM Andy Weidl, who was in the Eagles’ front office from 2016-22.
If Woolen is dealt, Roseman will likely be looking for a fourth-round or fifth-round pick for him.
ESPN is predicting that there’s a 35% chance Woolen is dealt.
But if the Eagles lose on Sunday vs. the Washington Commanders, you’d have to imagine that goes up.
