The Baltimore Ravens and franchise quarterback Lamar Jackson have been a match made in football heaven for most of their time together, but things are changing. Jackson has been dealing with injuries quite a bit during the past two seasons, and his latest injury happened on Sunday with an injury to the thumb on his throwing hand that will require surgery and could keep him out for the rest of the season.

The injury happened during the team's 36-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Now, the Ravens are 4-4 and looking for answers.

Lamar Jackson's injury could put his future with the Baltimore Ravens in question

After that dismal game, Dan Graziano of ESPN laid out a feature with overreactions, and some that aren't, after the latest week of NFL games. He dubs the idea that Jackson and the Ravens could split as something that isn't an overreaction. He even supports the idea that it could be Jackson's last game with the Ravens.

"If -- and this is still a big 'if' at this point -- this is a season-ending injury, then the Ravens and Jackson will head into a pivotal, potentially cataclysmic offseason," Graziano wrote in the piece. "Jackson's projected salary cap number for 2027 is $84.34M, which means the Ravens probably will want to extend him to knock down that number."

He added, "But Jackson isn't interested in talking an extension -- as was the case this past offseason -- so the Ravens will have a decision to make. And if they don't feel comfortable heading into the final year of Jackson's deal without an extension in place, we are going to hear legitimate talk of Jackson being traded. Jackson's contract also has a no-trade clause, which means he'd get to decide where he goes."

Before this injury, it was thought that the Ravens wanted to lock Jackson in for another big extension this offseason. But things may have changed now. Don't be shocked if you see these parties splitting. Not that it will happen, but it certainly is more likely now than it was a week ago.
