Kyrie Irving Might Be Miami Heat’s Last Hope Despite Mavericks’ Resistance
· Yahoo Sports
With November beginning, multiple things within the NBA have fallen into place. Players who were struggling when the season began have now established their footing and found their rhythm. And a brilliant example of this is Kyrie Irving.
During the Mavericks’ recent game against the Houston Rockets, he not only delivered his best performance of the season so far but also emerged as the star player. His performance once again fueled the trade rumours, especially with the Miami Heat. And given their questionable performance, Irving might just be the thing the Heat needs.

Could Kyrie Irving Solve Miami’s Troubles?

Mandatory Credit: Sam Navarro-Imagn ImagesAfter a disappointing start, the Heat made a comeback during the last two games in October against the Atlanta Hawks and Indiana Pacers. Facing some intense criticism, they seem to be peaking by the end of October, but once again have lost another game. In their recent game against the LA Lakers, Miami lost by 138-117. The holes in their strategy are visible, and they need help.
Meanwhile, Irving is shining on the defensive end, is renowned for his shot creation, and can be counted on for backcourt scoring. Opposite the Rockets, he recorded a game high of 35 points and nine assists, while shooting 12-of-19 from the field (5-of-8 from three-point range). He could aid the Heat with perimeter scoring, elite clutch shot-creation, and setting up a strong offense. But it’s not as easy as it appears.
Dallas Mavericks Hold On Tight to Irving
Among other teams, Miami has been a potential landing spot for Irving since the beginning of this summer. Then his latest performance again ignited the trade rumours, with some heavy links to Florida. However, NBA insider Mark Stein has given a big statement recently on Dallas’s intentions. According to him, the Mavericks have been telling the other teams since June that Irving is not available. “You can call for him; we are not making him available” is what Dallas intends.
Then, later, talking to the Hoops Collective, ESPN reporter Tim McMahon said, “I think it’s going to be awfully hard to trade him.” McMahon feels that, though the player will have a big market, given his locker room experience, Dallas won’t let him go. But that still hasn’t stopped the teams in need from holding out hope, and the Heat has been said to be monitoring Irving.
Technical Challenges Further Block This Association
Even if it were feasible, salary is what makes this situation more complicated and directly impacts the possibility of obtaining other potential players for Miami. Irving’s $39.4 million salary for 2026-27 is no joke, and the Heat have already spent a big portion of their budget and considerable manpower in acquiring the superstar, which left them at the mercy of players making financial sacrifices like Klay Thompson to join them.
But not every player might be willing to make that gamble, especially without the guarantee of a profitable return. Moreover, Miami cannot afford to give away crucial players like Pelle Larsson or others they have extended on a massive contract at this point. Moreover, Irving has a player option for 2027-28 for $42 million, which could be a complication as well.
Shams on Kyrie Irving and the Miami Heat:
“They are going to be monitoring Kyrie Irving. The question is, if you’re Miami, what can you give for Kyrie Irving? — I believe they have 1 first round pick they can trade. Is that enough to get Kyrie Irving? My sense, is probably not.… https://t.co/pTsPZgm3Y9pic.twitter.com/uRDobTcnyi

The Last Word
At the moment, there is no official word from anyone within either team or the player on the matter, but the recent advances have intensified the situation. For now, Miami closed their October schedule with a victory only to begin November with a loss. The season opening has been hard on many teams and players. But after a few games, it has improved for many, and Irving is proof of it.
Since the season began, the newly arranged Miami roster is disoriented, and even veteran players within the team are struggling. A possible addition of Irving could improve the situation and make them more capable.
