‘He didn’t hesitate’ – Joe Buck dropped clear Troy Aikman clue earlier this year over ESPN future
· Yahoo Sports
Joe Buck and Troy Aikman’s fractured relationship has developed into a huge talking point across the NFL as the Hall of Famer’s future with ESPN looks uncertain.
The future partnership in the booth for ESPN’s Monday Night Football has been thrown into doubt in recent months after Aikman failed to agree to new contract terms. This has not been helped by Buck agreeing to his own new deal in the meantime.

After years of working together, it is believed that Aikman feels betrayed by his MNF colleague. The pair have worked together for a quarter of a century, yet their partnership now looks set to end in controversial fashion.
Buck may have hinted at this several months ago, before their relationship became as fractured as it is today.
What Joe Buck suggested about Troy Aikman’s ESPN future months ago
Buck agreed a new $18 million per year deal with ESPN earlier this year, which will take his future with the network through until 2032. A future without Aikman remains a real possibility, and Buck has already admitted that he is open to working with someone else.
“When this story broke with Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, I immediately thought of that conversation with Joe Buck. I don’t expect everyone to remember, but at the time when I taped that podcast with Joe, we were talking about their contract situations (maybe we didn’t know yet that Joe had signed). I asked him, ‘Could you ever imagine doing Monday Night Football working with someone other than Troy?’ I remember being struck in that moment by the fact that Joe not only said vehemently that he could work with anyone, and didn’t have to just work with Troy, but he didn’t hesitate for half a second,” said Jimmy Traina.
“When you look back on it, it’s hard to believe. Like Jorge says, do you think he already knew something was about to go down and that was a tell? I have to say I do, and I’ve thought that ever since the story broke.”
Traina interviewed Buck back in September ahead of the new NFL season with his and Aikman’s future with ESPN still a big talking point. However, it has developed into an even bigger story of late due to Buck’s confirmed new deal.
The relationship between the two has become frosty up in the booth, and it is clear for many fans to see during the broadcast on Monday Night Football. For the good of everyone involved, there needs to be a resolution to end the awkwardness between the duo.
