Three Coastal Bend powerlifters capture gold to open state meet

Multiple Coastal Bend athletes captured state powerlifting titles in the Class 1A-2A state championships Wednesday at the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association state meet in Edinburg.
Woodsboro’s Sidney Castillo claimed a state championship in the 181-pound weight class and Agua Dulce’s Bailey Austin captured gold in the 220-pound division. Freer’s Treycie Lerma added another gold medal with a first-place finish in the 242-pound class.

Agua Dulce also finished sixth as a team with a team-score of nine points.
Other Coastal Bend athletes also medaled with Three Rivers’ Melia Hinojosa finishing second in the 105-pound division and teammate Kenley Gilbreath placing third in the 97.
Riviera’s Nevaeh Suarez placed third in the 132-pound weight class and teammate Jesaeh Suarez added a third-place finish in the 148 class.
Ben Bolt’s Sophia Trevino placed third in the 220-pound weight class.
