The Carolina Panthers were definitely one of the most surprising teams in 2025.

The team had been mired in mediocrity for years, but made a shocking run in 2025 and ended up as NFC South champions. The Panthers even gave the Los Angeles Rams a tough fight in the playoffs, but ended up losing in the first round.

Now, the hope is that the Panthers can maintain their momentum and take a step forward in 2026. So far, the team has made some solid moves this offseason, such as adding edge-rusher Jaelan Phillips and linebacker Devin Lloyd.

However, the team needs to add more weapons for Bryce Young as well. Young showed positive signs in 2025, but it would be wise to give him the best possible supporting cast.

Mike Renner of CBS Sports recently published an updated mock draft and Renner has the Panthers adding wide receiver KC Concepcion. Concepcion is considered to be one of the top receivers in this class and could thrive in Carolina opposite Tetairoa McMillan.

Regarding this potential pick, Renner offered the following:

The Panthers go wide receiver in the first round for a third straight year. Concepcion brings juice and separation ability that no one else on the roster can match.

As Renner mentioned, the Panthers have already taken a receiver in the first round for two consecutive seasons. McMillan, the 2025 pick, has already been a hit, but 2024 first-rounder, Xavier Legette, has largely disappointed.

Even if Legette improves in 2026, the Panthers could still stand to have better depth. Concepcion is an intriguing fit due to his ability to separate and his reliable hands. In 2025, the receiver played in 13 games for Texas A&M and caught 61 passes for 919 yards and nine touchdowns.

In total, Concepcion caught 185 passes for 2,218 yards and 25 touchdowns. The receiver dominated in both the ACC and SEC, and played in plenty of big games against NFL-caliber competition.

It will probably be tempting to take an offensive lineman or a defensive back, but Concepcion could make a bigger impact immediately. Regardless, the Panthers definitely need to add a few more pass-catchers before the season begins.
