The manager’s point was simple: while Perri’s cup run matters, Darlow’s form has been the reason Leeds have tightened up at the back, and the pecking order currently sits firmly in the Welshman’s favour.
“It’s quite easy. I won’t speak about the starting line-up before my players know. But if you analyse what we’ve done in the cup and during the season, you could guess pretty well what I’ll do this weekend.
“Karl has been fantastic for us on the Premier League level, a key player and big factor in why we haven’t conceded too many. Lucas has been fantastic in the FA Cup, playing a crucial role in reaching this semi-final.

That’s the real question behind the obvious answer. Farke has tried to keep it split, cup form for Perri, league form for Darlow, but that actually does Darlow a bit of a disservice. Since winning back his spot in January, Darlow has been one of the most reliable keepers, providing a steady hand.
Against a Chelsea side with this much quality, experience under pressure is everything. Perri lost his place specifically because he struggled with important decisions. At Wembley, with so much on the line, Leeds need the man who has shown he can stay calm under fire. That man is Darlow. Sentiment is nice, but form wins finals.
