FRIDAY’S TOP PERFORMERS
BOYS TRACK AND FIELD
Orion Galloway, Jefferson, Cameron Crane, New Boston Huron, and Jacob Stanislawski, Flat Rock: Both won events at the Division 2 Regional at Chelsea. Galloway ruled the 800 with a season-best 1:59.29 and Stanislawski went 9:36.78 in the 3,200. He was also second in the 1,600. Crane soared to 12-8 in the pole vault. Anthony Tamrahkyarov of Airport placed second in the 200, third in the 100 and ran on the second-place 400 relay with Jay’len Strong, Damien Luft and Mason Stoneburner. Braeden Letette of Milan (high hurdles), Luke Bishop (Dundee) and Braxton Ellison (long jump) also were second. Zane Knezevich of Jefferson qualified for state in the 200 and as part of the 800 relay. The 400 relay also made it to state. Relay members were Grant Hakeos, Alex Brown, Zy'Rell Henley, Drake Jones, Maddex Shotwell, Alex Brown and Josh Hargreaves.
GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD
Ella Baker, Airport: Took first in the 800 meters with a season-best 2:23.43 in the Division 2 Regional at Chelsea. Milan’s 1,600 relay of Amerie Wilson, Madison Lancaster, Kaily McDaniel, Angelina Wilson also won a Regional title with a time of 4:13.93. Breanna Sexton of Flat Rock was second in the shot-put and third in the discus. Other seconds came from Maddie Salenbien of Dundee (400), Clair Miller of Jefferson (3,200), Breanna Sexton of Flat Rock (shot-put) and Lily Ratliff of Dundee (long jump). Elise Lovett (long jump) and Aileen McNamara (800) also qualified for state for Flat Rock
THURDAY’S TOP PERFORMERS
SOFTBALL
Hayley Southerland, SMCC: Delivered a two-run triple in the fourth inning and a two-run double in the fifth to spark a come-from-behind 6-4 win over Clinton. Southerland clubbed a three-run homer to spark a 12-1 win in the first game as the Kestrels swept the No. 5 team in Division 3. Olivia Piepsney had a big day, earning a pitching win in the first game and with 12 strikeouts and hitting a pair of home runs and driving in six runs in the second. Hannah Williams plated a run with a double and lofted a sacrifice fly to support the pitching of Braelyn Runyon.
Jozi Willey, Monroe: Had a strong day at the plate and racked up 14 assists during 14-8 and 14-5 losses to Pinckney. Soffia Elmer was strong defensively at shortstop.
Averie Gendron, Gibraltar Carlson: Collected three hits and drove in three runs during a 15-0 romp over Trenton. Addis Burgei also had three hits and Addison Skinner allowed just two hits.
BASEBALL
Cam Riggs, Ida: Went 2-for-3, drove in three runs and scored twice in an 11-0 rout of Hillsdale. Carter Derian and Carson Weeman combined for a five-hit shutout for the 21-6 Blue Streaks.
GIRLS SOCCER
Beth Klocek, Bedford: Took over in goal for the second half and did not give up a goal during a 3-0 loss to Dexter. “We were down 0-3 at half and played a strong second half,” Bedford coach Kellie Grosteffon said. “Made a few mistakes in the first half that cost us goals.” Avry Madalinski played well in the midfield and Gabby Chapple led the defense. Audrey Grosteffon hit the post on a penalty kick.
BOYS LACROSSE
Brenton Carter, SMCC: Netted a pair of goals in a 7-4 loss to Grosse Ile. Tyler St. Pierre and Christian Craanen had the other goals.
BOYS GOLF
Fischer Zawacki, Whiteford: Shot an even-par 36 to capture at Whiteford Valley to take medalist honors a Tri-County Conference jamboree. His teammate Cade Schober carded a 39 for the second-lowest score of the day. Nathan Massingill and Theo Joerin each checked in at 42 as the Bobcats shot 159 to finish 17 shots ahead of Lenawee Christian in at Whiteford Valley. Erie Mason was third with 177 and Summerfield fourth with 179. James Feudi of Summerfield tied for the fourth-best score with 41. Lucas Neely of Mason and Summerfield’s Logan Schwichtenberg both shot 42.
Trent Ison, Gibraltar Carlson: Led the Marauders with 80 with teammate Tyler Kalbfleisch a shot behind in the Marauder Invitational. Carlson was second with 328, Airport third with 334, Carlson B fourth with 345, New Boston Huron fifth with 347 and Flat Rock seventh with 355. Grosse Ile won with 315. Landon McGregor and Austin Tackett both finished with 82 for Airport and Huron’s Jacob Darin and Cam Kalbfleisch of Carlson both carded 83.
Taleon Guess, Bedford: Finished two strokes under par at Legacy Golf Club with a round of 34 as Bedford shot 151 to beat Dexter (168) and Ypsilanti Lincoln (181). Bradey Kozlowski, Nolan Fischer and Connor Urbanski of Bedford all tied for the second-best score of the round with 39.
Cade Wasner, SMCC: Carded a 42 to lead a 173-191 triumph over Riverview. The Falcons also got 43s from Jeffery Gessner and Brandon Peppers and 45s from Luke Wasner and Cameron Cousino.
Chase Knabusch, Monroe: Shot 40 to lead the Trojans in a 149-166 loss to Saline.
