Tennessee baseball wins first-round game against South Carolina

The SEC baseball tournament opened Tuesday with the first round at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in Hoover, Alabama.

No. 10 seed Tennessee (38-19, 15-15 SEC) defeated No. 15 seed South Carolina (22-35, 7-23 SEC), 11-6. The Vols advance to face No. 7 seed Arkansas on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. EDT.

On Tuesday, Cam Appenzeller (6-1) started for the Vols and pitched five innings, earning his sixth win of the season. He recorded five strikeouts 84 pitches, including 52 strikes, against 23 batters.

Brayden Krenzel pitched 1.2 innings in relief for the Vols. He totaled two strikeouts and 28 pitches (19 strikes) against nine batters.

Will Haas earned his first save of the season.

Tennessee's offense totaled 15 hits against the Gamecocks. Henry Ford and Garrett Wright hit one home run each for the Vols. Wright went 4-for-5 and recorded three RBIs and two runs.

Nate Eisfelder started in right field for Tennessee in replace of Reese Chapman.
