Lipscomb baseball goes extra innings back-to-back to earn NCAA Tournament berth

For the second time in four seasons and the fourth time in school history, Lipscomb baseball is headed to the NCAA Tournament.

The Bisons claimed back-to-back extra-inning wins in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament to earn an automatic berth.

Lipscomb, the No. 2 seed in the double-elimination tournament, defeated No. 4 seed North Alabama 5-4 in 10 innings on May 23. After falling behind 4-3 in the eighth inning, the Bisons rallied with runs in the ninth and 10th.

Lipscomb had beaten North Alabama 4-3 in 14 innings on May 22. It was the longest game in terms of time in ASUN Tournament history, lasting 5 hours, 20 minutes.

North Alabama (31-28) defeated No. 3 seed Florida Gulf Coast 6-5 earlier on May 23, setting up the second game against Lipscomb.

Lipscomb (29-24) played two extra-inning games in the regular season and split them. The Bisons fell to Villanova 11-5 in 10 innings on Feb. 20 and beat Eastern Kentucky 3-2 in 12 innings on March 27.

The Bisons will find out who they will be playing in which of the 16 regionals during the NCAA Baseball Tournament selection show on May 25 (11 a.m. CT, ESPN2).

After earning a double-bye, Lipscomb went 3-0 in the ASUN Tournament, opening with a 4-1 win over FGCU on May 21. The Bisons finished the regular season with momentum, winning seven of their last nine games.

Lipscomb went 0-2 in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, losing in the Clemson Regional to Clemson 12-5 and Charlotte 9-2.

The Bisons' other NCAA Tournament berths came in 2008 and 2015.
