Softball: BOLD Warriors draw Southland in state opener

May 29—BROOKLYN CENTER — The BOLD softball team earned the fifth seed in next week's Class A state tournament.

Seeds were announced by the Minnesota State High School League on Friday. The Warriors face fourth-seeded Southland in the Class A quarterfinals at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Field 2 at Caswell Park in North Mankato.

The Southland Rebels (20-2) are the Section 1A champions. Southland, located in Adams, beat Houston 2-0 to clinch the 1A title Wednesday. The Rebels are making their sixth state appearance, previously qualifying in 1986, '87, '88, '89 and '95.
All Class A quarterfinal games are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Other match-ups include:
* No. 8 Sebeka (20-5) vs. No. 1 United South Central (23-4);
* No. 7 New York Mills (23-9) vs. No. 2 Red Lake Falls (24-4);
* And No. 6. West Lutheran (16-5) vs. No. 3 Barnum (22-3).
Championship semifinals and consolation semifinals take place Wednesday at Caswell Park. The third-place game and consolation final are Thursday at Caswell Park.
The Class A championship game is scheduled for Friday, June 5 at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium on the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis.
