Multiple social media posts on Sunday, June 14, confirmed the commitment. His high school coach said Anetema is expected to play receiver for the Sun Devils.
Anetema, who moved to Mesa from California last season, said he couldn't comment immediately on Sunday because he was on his official visit to ASU.
He was offered by the Sun Devils after a great showing during a 7-on-7 tournament at ASU last week.
He becomes the third in-state player in the 2027 class to commit to the Sun Devils, joining Chandler Basha offensive tackle Jake Hildebrand and Basha kicker Mikey Barth.
Anetema plays both wide receiver and defensive back for the Jackrabbits.
"Great player," Mesa coach Ryan Felker told The Republic in a text message. "He will play wide receiver at ASU. Great hands, attacks the ball, high football IQ.
"It shows in his ability to run routes and set defenders up. Even better person and comes from a good family. I'm very excited for him. He deserves the opportunity and will shine as a Devil."
Anetema moved from Torrance, California, last year with his brother, Mesa quarterback Boogie Anetema and two other Bishop Montgomery players from Torrance after they were declared ineligible, along with numerous other players, by the California Interscholastic Federation.
Bishop Montgomery also was forced to forfeit its season last year and its coach was fired, after an investigation involving a booster paying parents for incoming transfers.
The four California players were able to suit up for under former head coach Jeremy Hathcock at Mesa after sitting out the first half of last season as required by Arizona Interscholastic Association transfer rules. They were cleared to play in early October. Hathcock was in his first season leading the Jackrabbits. He has since left to take the head coaching job at Perry.
Kingston Anetema finished with 39 catches for 471 yards and five TDs in seven games for Mesa last year. He also had 26 tackles, 14 solo, two interceptions, five passes broken up and a fumble recovery on defense.
