The aftermath of the Khamzat
Chimaev-Dillon
Danis pairing at RAF 10 has garnered much more attention than
the match itself.
After the former UFC middleweight champion scored a quick victory over Danis, Chimaev kicked the legs of a grounded “El Jefe,” sparking a huge melee at the Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis. Danis appeared to draw Chimaev’s ire by holding on to his foot at the conclusion of the match.
Danis also attempted a guillotine on Chimaev after being taken down earlier in the match.
Chimaev has since broken his silence on the situation, directing the majority of the blame toward his opponent.
“What should I think? Stupid guys do stupid things,” Chimaev told Red Corner MMA. “I accept something like that. He knows he wasn’t my level in wrestling so he felt that and then he tried to sub me. Like do submission, bro. If he did a submission on me, I’m never going to train again.
“He’s a weird guy, honestly. You know I try to hold myself but this idiot do stupid things. What should we do?”
With animosity still lingering, the Chechen standout indicated that he would welcome a streetfight against Danis, who has been known for his controversial antics since rising to prominence as Conor McGregor’s training partner several years ago.
“I was thinking winning the match then outside I want to ask him let’s go. Let’s dance outside,” Chimaev said. “I asked him before like [let’s] do a street fight, you know? He don’t want it. He knew a lot of security is going to be there and that’s why he was doing same shit stuff.
“Whenever he wants, just send me a message [with] location wherever you are and so I’m open.”
It’s not the first time such an incident has occurred at an RAF event. A match between UFC lightweight contender Arman Tsarukyan and influencer-wrestler Georgio Poullas at RAF 6 MMAFighting.com). “It should just stay on the stage. We talked to both of them prior to the match and said keep it all wrestling on the stage. There should not be anyone getting on that stage. The show was amazing before we got to that issue. The wrestling world deserves wrestling. That’s what we’re here to provide.
“No, we didn’t want that, as you probably know. We’re 10 shows in, we had it happen once, now two. We just have to make sure again that any of those matches happen, security’s even bigger so we don’t have that situation.”
