Terron Armstead says he's 'made it' after joining Saints Hall of Fame

Terron Armstead accomplished plenty during his NFL career, but being inducted into the New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame carries a different kind of meaning. The former Saints left tackle spent some of the best years of his career in New Orleans after entering the league as a third-round pick out of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. His journey from a small-school prospect to one of the best offensive tackles in recent history remains one of the better stories in franchise history. Even after all of the accolades and accomplishments, Armstead says being inducted into the Saints Hall of Fame stands above everything else.

“In all seriousness, I’m honored, humbled, thankful, grateful, appreciative — all the synonyms,” Armstead told reporters during Thursday's press conference. “And that’s not enough to express gratitude for this moment, being here.”

Armstead thanked his family, along with several members of the Saints institution who helped to shape his career. He mentioned general manager Mickey Loomis, owners Tom and Gayle Benson, executive Dennis Lauscha, and former Saints head coach Sean Payton as people who were part of his journey from a small school to a franchise cornerstone.

“I got my family here in the front row,” Armstead said. “A lot of the leaders of the organization that took a chance on me, a kid out of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Really small school, probably hard to see my film, Mickey. You guessed on a lot of things, but it worked.”

Armstead became one of the most important players on the Saints' offensive line during some of the franchise's most successful stretches. He started 93 frolickings across nine seasons with the Saints, earning three Pro Bowl selections in 2018, 2019, and 2020.

Making his induction even more special was the fact that Armstead entered alongside former teammate Mark Ingram. The two spent years together in New Orleans and became key contributors from the same era. For Armstead, representing the Saints and the city of New Orleans forever is the perfect ending to his story with the franchise.

“Being in this Hall of Fame for this organization, representing this city, I couldn’t write a better story. It’s perfect for me. It’s perfect for my family. This is everything for me. This is the ‘I made it.’ I finally feel like I made it. This is the pinnacle. This is the reach. This is the goal,” Armstead added.

Armstead's career already spoke for itself. Now, he becomes a permanent piece in the Hall of Fame — and an example for future Saints to model themselves after.
