A recent CBS top 100 player ranking shook a hornet's nest when it was revealed that New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye was placed at No. 61 on the list.

That would be the same Maye who led the league in completion percentage, won 14 games and went to Super Bowl LX last season. It's the same player who finished second behind Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford in NFL MVP voting in only his second season.

Reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett topped the list, while Stafford, the reigning NFL MVP, finished second overall.

CBS' Pete Prisco briefly explained his reasoning for ranking Maye so low with the following:

"He finished second in MVP voting in his second season, leading the Patriots to the Super Bowl. He threw 31 touchdown passes and just eight interceptions, but he didn't play well in the postseason. (Last season: NR)"

Maye's play dropped off significantly in the postseason. However, it is often overlooked that he played against three consecutive top-five defensive teams in the Seattle Seahawks, Denver Broncos and Houston Texans. Even the Los Angeles Chargers were a top-10 defense when facing the Patriots in the wild-card round.

Those performances also came behind an inexperienced offensive line with a 32-year-old Stefon Diggs as his best receiving target. Regardless, Maye was ranked ninth among all NFL quarterbacks on a list that seemed to have drawn the ire of most Patriots fans.
