Ariel Hukporti, who signed with the Boston Celtics on Wednesday, isn’t the only New York Knicks frontcourt contributor to depart the franchise after winning a hard-fought championship.

The Knicks' 7-foot rebounding star and favorite center inked a multi-year deal with the Boston Celtics to begin a new chapter of his NBA career.

“Free agent center Mitchell Robinson has agreed to a three-year, $47.4 million deal to sign with the Boston Celtics, with a player option in third season,” ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on X/Twitter. “Robinson departs the Knicks after serving a key role on the historic championship team.”

It’s easy to see why the Celtics were interested enough in Robinson to sign him to a three-year contract that'll earn him $15.8 million annually. Neemias Queta and Luka Garza are respectable NBA big men, but Robinson is on another level skill-wise.

The former second-round pick is a naturally gifted rebounder who hunts down boards on both ends immediately upon entering games off the bench. Robinson, who averaged 17.9 rebounds per 40 minutes this season, undoubtedly played a valuable role in the Knicks’ ability to break through and reach the finish line in the postseason.

Offensively, Robinson is nothing to write home about, but he has a positive reputation for scoring efficiently when opportunities come his way (he’s shot 72.3% from the field this year).

While it remains to be seen how the Celtics’ shocking Jaylen Brown-Paul George trade will pan out for the franchise, signing Robinson will give the Celtics the much-needed low-post stability going forward.
