Chris Paul fuels return speculation with Jayson Tatum workout video

Chris Paul announced his NBA retirement on Feb. 13. However, fans are speculating that he could play for the Boston Celtics next season. It came after a video of him putting up shots at the Elite Camp on Wednesday with Jayson Tatum circulated on social media.

The 41-year-old point guard went through some shooting drills and a 2-on-2 game with the Celtics star forward. Paul remains in shape and performed well during the session.

The NBA posted the clip on X and fans reacted in the comments section.

“CP3 playing on Celtics for 1 year. JT MVP 2028,” one fan said.

Will Chris Paul join the Celtics?

Paul returned to the Los Angeles Clippers in July 2025 for the final season of his career. The Toronto Raptors traded him on Feb. 5, and they waived him eight days later. It wasn’t the swan song he hoped for, leaving the possibility that he could still return for another run.

Boston has Derrick White, Payton Pritchard and Mike Conley in its point guard rotation. While Paul could play the role of mentor for the team, it’s hard to imagine him wearing a Celtics jersey next season. However, stranger things have happened in the NBA, and although unlikely, it’s not entirely impossible.
