Dolphins QB Malik Willis lands in surprising tier of NFL quarterbacks

The Miami Dolphins released former first-round pick Tua Tagovailoa this offseason, and to replace him, they signed former third-round pick Malik Willis to a three-year, $67.5 million contract.

While Willis has been in the building for a couple of months, we will finally get our first look at the quarterback in a competitive setting when the team takes the field in a few weeks for training camp.

Before that, CBS Sports' Bryan DeArdo tiered the 32 projected starting quarterbacks across the league, and while there are some questions about Willis' future, he landed in the third tier, called the promising prospects.

"After rejuvenating his career in Green Bay, Willis will get his first legitimate chance to be an NFL starting quarterback," DeArdo wrote. "It'll be a challenge, though, as Willis is joining a Dolphins team that is starting anew."

Willis is the only quarterback in the tier who has been in the league for more than one season, as he joins Jaxson Dart, Tyler Shough and Cam Ward. With 17 quarterbacks in the two tiers above them, Willis could rank anywhere from 18th to 21st.

However, in Miami, Willis doesn't have the best weapons. Their running back room may be strong, but his receiving corps is one of the worst in the league and the tight end room could fall into the same category.

If Willis is able to find success in South Florida in his fifth year in the NFL, and with these weapons around him, that will be a remarkable story.
