Why Atlanta Braves Trading for Tarik Skubal Makes Too Much Sense

The Atlanta Braves are among the teams being mentioned as a potential trade suitor for Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal. Of course, ball clubs such as the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees could end up pursuing the two-time Cy Young winner. However, the Braves arguably need Skubal the most.

Braves Must Think About Dodgers

Not only would trading for Skubal give them the best front of the rotation duo in the game with the southpaw and Chris Sale, but it would also keep Skubal away from the Dodgers. If LA acquires Skubal, all the rest of the National League can do is hope for the best. 

The Braves could end up playing the Dodgers in the postseason. If they are going to reach the World Series, Atlanta will likely have to upset Los Angeles in a playoff series. 

Having Skubal and Sale leading the way would give the ball club a tremendous opportunity to pull off an upset. They are two of the best starters in the game, and they could help Detroit earn multiple victories throughout the postseason.

Of course, the Dodgers feature a stellar rotation. Additionally, other potential NL playoff teams -- like the Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers -- feature star pitchers on their rosters. Given that fact, trading for Skubal makes even more sense for the Braves. 

The Risk is Worth it

The Tigers will understandably want a massive trade package in return for Skubal. Even though he is going to enter free agency after the season, the Tigers know that contending teams will be willing to surrender star prospects for arguably the best pitcher in all of MLB.

The Braves have been hesitant to part ways with some of their top prospects in the past. If Atlanta wants to make a World Series run this year, the risk will certainly be worth it. Winning the World Series is the goal, of course, and Atlanta is likely a Tarik Skubal away from becoming a legitimate World Series contender.

The Braves are going to have plenty of competition if they decide to pursue a trade for Skubal. Assuming the Tigers make him available -- which is not guaranteed to happen -- Atlanta should be among the most aggressive trade suitors. 

Tarik Skubal could realistically turn the Braves into a World Series ball club this year.
