“Everyone remembers Hazard”: New Chelsea winger Geovany Quenda arrives from Sporting CP aiming to emulate club icon

Geovany Quenda has said he is excited by the challenge of the Premier League after Chelsea confirmed the arrival of the winger from Sporting CP.

Chelsea agreed a deal to sign Quenda from the Portuguese side in 2025, with the move becoming official this week.

The 19-year-old arrives as one of Portugal's most exciting young talents and was named Primeira Liga Young Player of the Season as Sporting won the title in 2024/25. Last season, he scored six times in 32 senior appearances.

Speaking at his unveiling, Quenda said he's excited about testing himself in English football and said a transfer to thePremier League is the fulfilment of a childhood goal. He named former Chelsea favourite Eden Hazard as one of his core memories of his new side.

"Obviously, it is the best league. It is the best league and us players always have the dream of reaching the highest level. So obviously I have dreamed of playing in the Premier League," the teenager toldchelseafc.com.

"Everyone remembers [Eden] Hazard, he was a player who left his mark on Chelsea a lot. That is my main memory of Chelsea."

Chelsea will be under new management this season, with Xabi Alonso appointed as the club's new head coach. Quenda said he is looking forward to working with Alonso and is aiming to impress his new boss in pre-season.

"Yes, it is exciting. Obviously, I have to be ready to help the team and always give my best. I am here to be one more player who can help the club."
