Mike Dunleavy calls Yaxel Lendeborg a 'seamless fit' with Warriors

Yaxel Lendeborg was highly touted out of Michigan, and Golden State Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. believes the 11th pick can contribute as soon as next season.

Lendeborg was a consensus first-team All-American last season after averaging 15.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.2 blocks and 1.1 steals, leading the Wolverines to their second national title. He was also the Big Ten Player of the Year and a first-team all-conference selection.

While his scoring, rebounding and versatility stand out on the court, the Warriors were also captivated by his championship pedigree, along with his unselfishness and overall skill set. The team is eager to watch him get started with the group.

"I think he seems like a seamless fit in how you can play, both offensively and defensively," Dunleavy told Dave McMenamin of ESPN. "He is playing with our summer league team right now, but as we transition with the veteran team, we think he'll be able to fit right in and contribute. Having a guy of his stature, experience level, size -- all of that stuff is going to bode well for us."

Lendeborg, who is averaging 16 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.4 steals in five summer league games, is set to join a veteran team, headlined by Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler. His addition was praised by the team, with Green calling it "a great pick."

The 23-year-old knows he faces an uphill battle as a rookie who must earn his playing time in coach Steve Kerr's rotation. He is striving to help the group win at any cost by impacting games on both ends of the court, particularly on defense.

Lendeborg has performed well in the early going, offering a glimpse of the production he can bring nightly. The organization is happy to have him in the mix and watch how he can impact winning, beginning next season.
