Steph Curry seemingly accepts 2026-27 season being a gap year for Warriors after LeBron James snub

The Golden State Warriors don’t seem to have a strong enough backup plan after LeBron James snubbed the franchise, leading to Steph Curry accepting his fate.
The Warriors missed the 2026 NBA Playoffs due to injuries sidetracking their season. While the franchise hopes to return to the postseason in 2026-27, that will be a tall task given their roster.

The Warriors have made no additions to their roster, hoping that signing LeBron would have been enough. Now that it’s off the table, 38-year-old superstar Curry knows he’s in for a long season.
Steph Curry is hoping for a competitive season with the Warriors
In an interview with The Athletic, Curry spoke about the eventual return of Moses Moody and Jimmy Butler from their long-term injuries being Golden State’s best path to being competitive.
“You hope that they both come back healthy. And we can play at a level that keeps us relevant and competitive and builds a foundation so that we can figure out what it looks like. But that is the situation. We don’t live in any alternative universe.”
“Sure. I’m hopeful for all the creative ideas of getting the best team possible. We had those conversations. But when you have injuries at the top like that, it’s always gonna change.”

The franchise will rely on re-signing Draymond Green to a big contract to keep him motivated, alongside a better season from the re-signed Kristaps Porzingis. Rookie Yaxel Lendeborg will also be asked to contribute in a major way.
Ultimately, Curry will have to fight through his runner’s knee injury, which restricted him to just 43 appearances last season, to help the Warriors be competitive enough to welcome Butler and Moody back in early 2027 while still having a shot at being competitive in the Playoffs.
