Former Vikings legend gives his take on J.J. McCarthy as their QB

The Minnesota Vikings quarterback competition is heating up now that training camp is here, and no one is backing down on social media from defending who they think should win the job. Through it all, the coaching staff has remained steadfast in their execution of this quarterback competition, while some on the outside consider it already Kyler Murray's job to lose.
While no starter is close to being named, it does allow time for more folks to add their thoughts. The latest comments come from franchise legend Adrian Peterson. He spoke recently with Kyle Odegard of Rotogrinders and was asked if he thought McCarthy could pull an upset and win the starting job.

His answer was simple: he doesn't see that happening.
“In my eyes, based on what I’ve seen from J.J., it would definitely be a surprise. That’s not to take anything away from J.J. I feel like he’s still a young quarterback. He’s only been around two or three years and he was injured the first year. But I feel like he has a lot of growing to do.”
Entering his third year, it is hard for quarterbacks to grow any more than they could have already. We have seen some players, such as Sam Darnold, find their way later down the line. In the case of McCarthy, the lack of moments of brilliance is really leaving a lot to be desired, the other way around with him.
