Panthers defender suddenly retires at 28 years old
· Yahoo Sports
Carolina Panthers defensive lineman LaBryan Ray was not present for Tuesday's training camp practice. And now, we know why.
As announced this evening, Ray has been placed on the reserve/retired list. Head coach Dave Canales had told reporters earlier in the day that the 28-year-old defender was absent due to personal reasons.

Ray, a two-time national champion at the University of Alabama, cracked into the NFL as an undrafted free-agent signee of the New England Patriots in 2022. After a stint on New England's practice squad, he jumped over to the United States Football League's Philadelphia Stars for the 2023 campaign—where he made five starts over seven outings.
His journey through the pros would then take him to Carolina in the summer of 2023. He went on to appear in 46 games for the Panthers between then and 2025—posting 73 combined tackles and a sack with 10 starts.
