Recently, the San Francisco 49ers signed Deebo Samuel, and on Wednesday, the Washington Commanders signed Stefon Diggs to a one-year deal worth up to $12 million.
From 2017 through 2023, Diggs recorded at least 1,000 yards every season, including surpassing 1,800 yards in 2020. He missed most of the 2024 season due to injury, but bounced back in 2025 with another 1,100-yard season.
Wide receiver remains a question mark for the Colts
Leading the way at this position group will be Alec Pierce -- when healthy -- and Josh Downs. That's a strong duo. However, the depth of this unit remains a major question mark.
Following the team's fifth training camp practice, ESPN's Stephen Holder said, "There are very much still a lot of questions" at this position, referencing the uncertainty around the WR3 role. Also, who ends up as the fourth, fifth, and sixth options remains to be seen as well.
From the sounds of it, Ashton Dulin and Laquon Treadwell are taking the bulk of the first-team reps with Downs in training camp. Nick Westbrook-Ikhine has flashed some playmaking potential, but that's often come with the second unit.
There hasn't been much in terms of steady practice production from this trio. The Colts don't need someone to step in and replace Michael Pittman's production, but without a steady presence at WR3, that does make defending Downs and Pierce easier for opponents, who can devote their attention to those two.
GM Chris Ballard did say before training camp that he would "consider" a veteran addition at wideout. Keenan Allen may now be the best available option for the Colts.
