Nebraska volleyball coach reveals she voted Pitt as No. 1 team

After the opening week of the 2026 volleyball season, the AVCA unveiled its top 25 rankings. Nebraska remains atop the list, keeping its No. 1 rank after a 2-0 start. However, head coach Dani Busboom Kelly revealed who she voted for as No. 1.

Busboom Kelly shared her opinion on Husker Radio Network, stating that she voted for Pitt to be the top-ranked team in the country following Nebraska's opening week of play.
"I feel like their schedule has been tough, they look great and we have more to prove."
Nebraska received 1,569 points in the poll, one of only two teams to exceed 1,500. Pitt earned 1,510 points, moving up from No. 4 to No. 2. The Huskers swept UNLV and No. 2 Texas in the Players Era Showcase in Las Vegas, Nevada, in their opening week. These two wins came after Nebraska won the Spikes Under the Light event on Thursday in Arlington, Texas, at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.
However, the Panthers, meanwhile, just finished their second week of action and stand at 4-0 following wins over No. 3 Kentucky, Xavier, No. 15 Kansas and No. 6 Wisconsin. Despite the Huskers starting the season No. 1, Pitt's start to the season does provide a strong case for the top spot.
