Lane Kiffin admits LSU football controversy ‘wasn’t easy’ but defends stance

On Thursday, Judge William Jorden granted an injunction against the NCAA, which paves the way for more than 40 athletes to be eligible to play this season, including prospective LSU players tight end Dae’Quan Wright and defensive lineman Zxavian Harris.
LSU’s 105-man roster was due on Friday, and head coach Lane Kiffin opted not to include Wright and Harris on it. He kept the roster at 103 players, but could add them later in the season since they’re both enrolled at the school.

Kiffin appeared on ESPN’s College GameDay on Saturday, since the show is in Baton Rouge for the Clemson-LSU game, and spoke on the matter. He confirmed that the decision “wasn’t easy.”
“That wasn’t easy,” Kiffin said. “As much as I feel for the players, I believe that you fight for what you believe in, and I believe these kids have an opportunity to play. Just like all the other kids around the country that are winning court cases and being put on rosters. But at the same time, I’m the head coach of LSU, and I had to make a decision that is for the big picture of LSU and the LSU football program.”
Saturday’s game
In the meantime, LSU will try to get its first win for Kiffin on Saturday, but it won’t be easy. Clemson is coming to town and would love nothing more than to pull off an upset.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC. Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit will have the call.
