‘Weak’ – NBA fans criticise Philadelphia 76ers after they announce new arena plans

The Philadelphia 76ers have just announced plans to build a new arena in the next few seasons.

They are set to leave the Xfinity Mobile Arena after two decades and move into the new building in 2030.
The 76ers will continue sharing their arena with the NHL’s Flyers, as well as a WNBA expansion team.
While Philadelphia sports fans must be delighted with the news, fans of other NBA teams have criticised the plans.

Nothing sums up tribalism in sports more than fans ridiculing another team’s arena that is not even built yet.
It is fair to say that NBA fans were not impressed with the Philadelphia 76ers’ plans for a new arena.
“Weak. The arena exterior looks like MetLife Stadium with dull grey slats,” an X user responded to the announcement.
Another suggested: “Is it me or does every stadium look the same now?”
“It’s really nice but honestly, as an architectural designer, it could still use something,” an NBA fan wrote. “It’s like a big business center.”
One commented: “I honestly like it but all the outside stuff when it’s going to be dark at 4pm and 30 degrees isn’t gonna play.”
Meanwhile, New York Knicks fans were particularly vocal in response to the 76ers’ social media posts.
One posted: “MSG South looks f——— beautiful, thank you so much! I can’t wait to help you guys finally sell the place out when the Knicks & Rangers come to town.”
Another said, “The Knicks will own this one too.”
