Netflix has released the first trailer for ‘Schumacher '94,' a feature-length documentary built entirely around Michael Schumacher's 1994 Formula 1 campaign, the season that delivered the first of his seven world titles. Netflix confirmed the film arrives worldwide on October 2 under the full title ‘Schumacher '94 – The Birth of a Legend.'

The documentary confines itself to a single year, and it is a year that carries as much weight for what surrounded it as for the championship itself. The then-25-year-old won eight grands prix and secured the title by a single point over Damon Hill. That margin was settled at the season finale in Australia, where a collision between the two forced both drivers to retire and handed Schumacher the crown.
The controversy did not end there. Schumacher's Benetton team faced allegations of running illegal traction control software across the campaign, a thread the film is expected to address. Netflix has described the project as a "granular, in-depth look at the year that changed everything" in Formula 1.
Beyond the title fight, 1994 remains one of the darkest seasons in the sport's history. Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger both lost their lives in separate accidents at the San Marino Grand Prix. Those events form part of the documentary's account of the season, placing Schumacher's breakthrough against the backdrop of tragedy that reshaped Formula 1 safety.
The trailer's release coincided with the Italian Grand Prix weekend, where Ferrari staged its own tribute to Schumacher, who won five of his seven titles with the Scuderia after joining in 1996. The SF-26 carried a revised livery for Monza, running a deeper red inspired by the F310, the first Ferrari Schumacher raced. His ‘MS' logo and seven stars appeared on the nose of the car.
The tribute extended to the drivers. Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc raced in special one-off suits for the weekend, and Leclerc unveiled a helmet designed in Schumacher's honor.
Netflix promoted the film with the line "One goal. One season. The start of something great," framing 1994 as the origin point of a career that would go on to define an era of the sport.
